Gov. documents support of small ports

On Wednesday, Gov. John Kitzhaber submitted a letter to the Obama Administration in support of small coastal ports. The letter highlights the vital role small ports play in the economic development of their communities, and calls attention to the growing need for funding to maintain navigation channels providing access to these critical ports and harbors. Kitzhaber’s message reinforces the sentiments sent to President Obama in late November by Rep. Peter DeFazio (Ore.), Sen. Ron Wyden (Ore.), Sen. Jeff Merkley (Ore.), Rep. Kurt Schrader (Ore.) and Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (Wash.).

Northwest small ports, their tenants and supporting businesses are providing family-wage jobs and economic development in communities that are struggling toward economic recovery.
