YACHATS — A covered bridge over the North Fork Yachats River built by the county 75 years ago is scheduled to get a nearly $700,000 makeover next year.
Lincoln County Public Works Director Jim Buisman said the county would pay 10.27 percent of the estimated $660,000 project, with a federal National Historic Covered Bridge Preservation grant funding the bulk of the bridge rehabilitation.
Initially built in 1938 at a cost of $1,500 ($24,000 in today’s dollars), the bridge received significant work done by the county in 1989, replacing the roof, trusses and siding.
