GUNNóLawrence R. Gunn Sr., 75, of Florence, passed away Dec. 10, 2012, at home with his loving wife at his side.
Larry was born Aug. 1, 1937, in Chicago, Ill. He was married Sept. 24, 1958, to his one and only true love, Nora (Moss) Gunn. They were blessed with 54 years of marriage.
Larry enlisted in the U.S. Navy (Seabees), where he honorably served 22 years as an electrician. He spent two tours during the Cuban Crisis, three tours in Vietnam, and taught electrician school at Port Hueneme, Calif. He ended his military career with a year-long tour wintering at South Pole and remained in constant contact with ther Pole Cats.
He also served a tour at Adack, Alaska, along with his family.
He loved camping, reading western novels and watching old western movies with his dog, Scooby.
He is survived by his wife, Nora; two sons: Larry Gunn Jr. (Diana) of Reedsport and Doug Gunn (Barabara) of Westlake; three grandchildren: Matthew Gunn (Kate) of Beaverton, Ore., Nyssa Osario (Adolfo) and Taylor Giotionini of Stockton, Calif.; three great-grandchildren: Manyla, Emma and Alexa; a sister, Camille MacDonald of Elk Grove; and a brother, Richard Gunn, of Corning, Calif.
Larry was a proud member of BPOE in Florence. He will be dearly missed by many family and friends.
He will be laid to rest at San Joaquin National Cemetery in Santa Nella, Calif.
