Both Viking teams were looking to nab a win on the road Friday against South Umpqua in an effort to overtake the Lancers, who are one spot ahead of Siuslaw in the Far West standings.
In the girls match-up, junior guard Ashlee Cole turned in her best offensive performance of her career, dominating the hardwood and posting a career-high 24 points against the Lancers. Cole’s assault included four 3-pointers and a series of lay-ins on fastbreak opportunities and steals.
“I was extremely pleased with how Ashlee scored the ball,” Siuslaw coach Aaron McNeill said of Cole’s performance, which helped keep Siuslaw within reach of the win after a 9-0 run by the Lancers in the third period.
Juniors posts Kylie Brandt and Alexandra Opitz sparked the Viks momentum in the first half, scoring 10 points and five points, respectively, with Cole helping Siuslaw to battle back in the fourth period.
