Get ready to be mobbed — by cash. Similar to the dancing flash mob craze, in which a group of people assembles abruptly at a location to put on a choreographed performance, Cash Mob is the latest movement to help support Florence-area businesses.
Part of the Siuslaw News’ ongoing shop local campaign, Community Unity, Cash Mob features a group of people who gather at a business and spend money — a minimum of $10 is suggested — at that company.
The mob’s purpose is to support both local businesses and the overall community.
“We’re targeting people who need help or attention for their business,” said John Bartlett, publisher of the Siuslaw News.
Beginning in April, two Cash Mobs will be scheduled each month at Florence-area businesses, which must be a participant of the Community Unity program. Platinum-level sponsors will choose each mobbed location by vote.
