A new club for local children, started in November, has already brought accolades to its members. Affiliated with Destination Imagination, an international program, the club of fourth- and fifth-graders meets each week to face “instant challenges,” problems that must be solved within a few minutes.

“The challenge might be task-based, like building a structure or making something work, or it could be performance-based, such as a skit or a way to present something,” said Team Manager Tina Watanabe, who facilitates each weekly meeting.

By participating, the children hone their collaborative, time management, critical- and creative-thinking skills while exploring science, technology, engineering, math and the arts.
