A rural voice

Posted: Tuesday, Mar 26th, 2013

Charene Reavis of Florence, left, chairwoman of the Rural Advisory Council for Lane Countys CCO, Trillium Community Health Plan, and Ellen Syversen of Lane County Public Health, center, discuss needs in the Florence area. Concerns will help form strategies and an action plan for the new coordinated care organization.

I wanted to be a part of something for rural communities because I feel like Im a voice crying in the wilderness, said Robin Roberts, the go-to person in the McKenzie/Blue River area. As she helps at the emergency food pantry, the only medical clinic, the family resource center and at school, Roberts sees people in her isolated community struggle to access health care and provide for their basic needs.

Like some other Rural Advisory Council members, three of whom are from Florence, she signed on to speak for those people.
