The Siuslaw School Board will be asked when it meets tonight to authorize laying off up to eight full-time teachers, but Superintendent Jeff Davis said that with some sacrifices, he hopes such drastic cuts will not be necessary.
“We’ve hired good people. Our goal is to retain our current level of staffing, if practical,” he said.
The layoffs would be implemented next school year because of an anticipated budget shortfall of more than $700,000.
The jobs of new teachers would be on the chopping block first, unless the instructor is certified to teach a required course that the district could not offer otherwise. For the complete article see the 04-10-2013 issue.
