Mapleton’s track team was on the road at the Mountain West League’s Monroe Invitational Thursday, where senior Liz Harry and sophomore Madison Frelich each had standout days on the track as well as in the throws and jumps.
Together, the two combined for eight top-7 finishes for the girls team.
In the 100-meter dash, Frelich finished with a time of 14.18, earning her third place in a field of 14 runners from six schools, including MWL Alsea, Mohawk and Siletz Valley.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Frelich once again finished third (19.22), less than a second ahead of Harry in sixth-place (20.0).
The Mapleton senior moved on to the throws, landing sixth in the shot put at 22-05.5, then seventh in the discus with a mark of 56-03.
Harry and Frelich joined up to compete in the javelin, joined by freshman Raven Bowman, who placed ninth at 41-11. Meanwhile, Harry threw the second-best mark of the day at 86-0, followed closely by Frelich, who was just six inches short of Harry, taking third at 85-06.
Frelich finished the day with a leap of 13-01.5 in the long jump, placing second in the event.For the complete article see the 04-13-2013 issue.
