Teacher speaks out before board move

Taking up the bulk of Wednesday night’s Siuslaw School Board meeting was a civil, but obviously heartfelt dialogue between PE teacher and head football coach Tim Dodson and the school board.

What seemed to be the usual “housekeeping” resolution, adopting policy changes mandated by law and recommended by the Oregon School Boards Association (OSBA), included an additional recommendation by the administration to allow one PE credit to be waived by the high school principal if a student participates in a minimum of two varsity sports or cheerleading programs in the same school year. The principal will consult with the athletic director, coaches and a high school PE teacher before making the determination.
