Posted: Tuesday, Apr 16th, 2013

Katy Potter set a new school record and the state’s ninth-fastest time in the 3000-meter race at the Jim Robinson Twilight Invitational.

The Viks set the pace and new records at the Jim Robinson Twilight Invitatinal in Roseburg on Saturday, including a new school record for standout long-distance runner Katy Potter, who finished the 3000-meter race with a new Siuslaw High School record with her time of 10:13.86.

The time was also clocked as the ninth-fastest in state history, in addition to leading the 4A classification so far this season and earning her the fifth fastest mark among all state classifications.

Two other Vikings made their way into Siuslaw’s record books, beginning with another 3000-meter mark captured by Mitchell Butler, who not only placed second in Roseburg at 8:48.72, but moved into the No. 5 spot on Siuslaw’s all-time list.

In the 800-meters, Katelyn Wells set an eight-second personal record and edged into the top 10 with her time of 2:25.4, earning her sixth at the meet, as well as Siuslaw’s 10th-fastest time ever.
