The Vikings enter into the final round of Far West League competition this week following an impressive sweep of Douglas on Friday, which included a rare perfect game pitched by senior Alex Snow.
In the opener, Siuslaw easily handled sixth-place Douglas (2-10), taking the Trojans with a 10-3 win.
But the Viks were just getting started as Snow took the mound and dominated, throwing a strikeout percentage of nearly 50 percent, striking out seven of the 15 batters he faced.
Meanwhile, the Vikings had no trouble at the plate, scoring more runs than Douglas had batters with a 17-0 shutout in just five innings..
Snow also had a standout day offensively, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, one run scored and a pair of stolen bases.
The win put Siuslaw at 10-2 in league play heading into yesterday’s game with Brookings-Harbor (after press deadlines), and maintaining a tie with North Bend (10-2) for first place in the Far West.
The regular season comes to a close this Friday, when the two league leaders will face each other on the Vikings’ home field for a doubleheader that could determine the Far West League champion. For the complete article see the 05-08-2013 issue.
