In the Mapleton area, races for three seats on the school board and three seats on the fire board are uncontested in the May 21 special election.
Two of three candidates for four-year terms on the school board are incumbents, Jeff Hendrickson and Dorman Harry.
Hendrickson is a candidate for Position 1. A Mapleton resident, he is employed in timber management for Davidson Industries and has worked for the company for 27 years. He graduated from Mapleton High School and has served in the past on the Mapleton Fire Board.
Dorman Harry is running for Position 4. Harry works in sales for Kendall Auto Group. He lives in Deadwood and graduated from Mapleton High School. Past employers include Emerald Chrysler Plymouth and Davidson Industries. He is a U.S. Army veteran.
Position 2 candidate is Mizu Burruss. Burruss is the education project manager for Siuslaw Watershed Council. Also a Mapleton High School graduate, she has a bachelorís degree in geology from Carleton College. Her occupational background includes project manager for Frontier Global Services.
Mapleton Fire Board candidates are incumbents Guy Hansen, Diana Scoville and Kathy Gerlach. All joined the board within the past year.For the complete article see the 05-11-2013 issue.
