PeaceHealth Medical Group (PHMG) clinics in Florence recently switched to a new electronic health record (EHR) system.
“Information is power, especially in medicine,” said Ron Shearer, MD, medical director and vice president of PHMG-Siuslaw.
“Our new system gives us more powerful tools to effectively help patients better manage their care,” added Shearer.
Florence clinics are the first in the PeaceHealth network to move to the new outpatient EHR called Epic. The remaining PHMG offices in Lane County will begin using it next month, followed by the practices in Washington and Alaska by early 2014.
Peace Harbor Medical Center and other PeaceHealth hospitals will not transition to Epic at this time but will remain on the current inpatient-oriented EHR. However, hospital providers and staff will be able to view records in the Epic system and both systems will share common record elements.
Among the many benefits of the new Epic EHR, a certified system that meets federal health care reform standards, is the easy retrieval of information in a variety of ways. For the complete article see the 05-15-2013 issue.
