After a week of “homework,” the Siuslaw School District Budget Committee is expected to decide its budget recommendations for 2013-2014 at tonight’s committee meeting.
At last week’s meeting, Kari Blake, the district’s business manager, presented five possible budget reduction scenarios, each saving about $725,000.
Committee members were to study them before meeting again to make recommendations. They also may decide to accept none of the five scenarios, but propose other alternatives.
All plans include a reduction of two full-time teaching positions, but only from retirement or resignation, at a savings of $156,483.
“The board has made it clear that if we can retain the services of our current staff, that would be wonderful,” said Superintendent Jeff Davis.
Savings from initial reforms to the Public Employees Retirement System were partially included in all scenarios at 2.5 percent, or $157,000.For the complete article see the 05-22-2013 issue.
