City officials and city staff, local business people, residents and tourists drawn by the crowd participated Friday morning in a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating completion of the new Siuslaw River Bridge Interpretive Site. The riverside park is situated in the heart of Old Town and creates a space for relaxing, walking, picnicking and enjoying the view of the city’s favorite landmark. An interpretive center, as well as a means for protecting the bridge view, has been the hope of many in the city for more than 12 years. Developing the site included the support of several government agencies, especially Florence city staff, the Federal Highway Administration and the Oregon Department of Transportation. The work was done by General Contractor Tom Ayres, Anderson Erosion Control, OBEC Engineering, Branch Engineering and David Dougherty of DLA Inc.
