’Blasters bump Albany, 5-4

The Three Rivers Sandblasters edged Albany Saturday to pick up a league win at home during their final scheduled home stand until July 9.

Marshfield’s Doug Molzahn led the Sandblasters defense, pitching a complete game, striking out five Albany batters and allowing a scattered seven hits, to nab a narrow 5-4 win.

The game remained close, with Florence’s Josh Iabichello connecting on a single and double to generate three RBIs and one run scored. Mike Gill of North Bend crossed the plate twice for the ’Blasters, with the game-winning run coming off the bat of Jake Thompson, who smacked a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning to secure the victory.

Iabichello went 2-for-4 with his single, double, three RBIs and a run scored to lead the Sandblasters. Gill was also 2-for-4, with a double, triple and two runs scored.
