New port commission elects officers

Posted: Tuesday, Jul 2nd, 2013

New Port of Siuslaw commissioners who took the oath of office Monday night were Ron Caputo, Nancy Rickard, Terry Duman and Jay Cable.

A bit of controversy emerged during what should have been a cut-and-dried swearing-in ceremony and election of officers Monday night, July 1.

Sworn in on the first day of their terms were new Port of Siuslaw Commissioners Ron Caputo, Nancy Rickard, Terry Duman and Jay Cable.

All the commissioners will serve four years, except Rickard, who will serve the two years remaining of City Councilor Joshua Greene’s term.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, the commissioners elected officers: Caputo, president; Duman first vice president; Cable, second vice president; Rickard, treasurer and William Fleenor, secretary. Incumbent Fleenor declined a nomination for higher office, claiming it would be a “potential conflict.”
