Changes tempered for next school year

Posted: Friday, Jul 5th, 2013

Superintendent Shawn Wiencek
Superintendent Shawn Wiencek is officially at the helm of Siuslaw School District as of July 1. This week Wiencek announced a shift in position for an assistant principal, however, some changes decided under former Superintendent Jeff Davis will not go into effect.

An earlier decision to shift to an overall K-8 model starting next year, under which the current elementary school principal, Michael Harklerode, would have served as principal at both the elementary and middle schools, is being re-evaluated by the administrative team and will not happen in September.

“We will be spending more time looking at the K-8 philosophy and vision. We will be digging into the nuts and bolts of that,” said Wiencek.

What can be expected for the next year is high school Assistant Principal Andy Grzeskowiak stepping in as interim principal at the middle school.

“I am looking forward to working with him next year,” said the superintendent. “He knows the district and last year he worked 20 percent of his time at the middle school. He was an obvious choice.”
