Siuslaw School District has earned a gold star ranking, according to a recent report from the Oregon Safe Schools and Communities Coalition (OSSCC).
The high ranking comes from the districtís response to the Oregon Safe Schools Act, which calls for strengthening and updating anti-bullying policies in schools. The 2009 law was amended last year to include training and mandatory reporting of bullying incidents. The Siuslaw district followed suit, adopting an updated policy in November 2012.
This is the second annual report distributed by OSSCC, whose membership includes such groups as the Oregon Education Association, the American Civil Liberties Union in Oregon, Oregon School Psychologists Association, chapters of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG), and many others. For the complete article see the 07-10-2013 issue.
