Man with a mission

Posted: Friday, Jul 19th, 2013

PeaceHealth’s Sister Andrea Nenzel, Rick Yecny, Alan Yordy, Sister Noreen Terrault and John Hill held roles in a ceremony acknowledging Yecny as chief mission officer July 17.

PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center CEO Rick Yecny accepted an additional title, chief mission officer, during a “missioning ceremony” conducted Wednesday at the hospital in Florence. Yecny was named CEO in 2010 after 10 years as chief financial officer for the organization.

The ceremony has its roots in PeaceHealth’s founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace, who in 1890 in Washington state, started a hospital that eventually launched the PeaceHealth organization.

For most of its history, the sisters were the leaders within the organization. In recent years, PeaceHealth has grown while the number of sisters engaged in its management and operation has declined.

“They started to ask, ‘How do we entrust this work to continue in the spirit of what we wanted and what we sought?’” said Bob Scheri, director of mission for PeaceHealth’s Oregon West Network.
