On July 17, four newly elected officials held their first regular meeting of the Port of Siuslaw Board of Commissioners. The meeting gave attendees a taste of changes that some of the new commissioners would like to initiate, showed a clash in perspectives and prompted Port Manager Robert Forsythe to assert his authority as manager.
William Fleenor, the only experienced commissioner on the board, was absent for the meeting that primarily dealt with routine “housekeeping” issues, but heated up after Commissioner Jay Cable presented some changes he would like to see during his tenure.
Cable first said the five-year strategic business plan adopted by the outgoing commission last month could use revision regarding parking fees and other issues.
“The strategic plan is a huge and impressive document that satisfied many requirements, but may not be the best measuring tool for actually measuring progress on specific projects,” he said, adding that the board should develop an action plan with specific goals and objectives to be used on a monthly basis to hold the board and staff accountable. For the complete article see the 07-24-2013 issue.
