ROSS — Gordon “Buzz” Douglas Ross was born in Pomona, Calif., April 22, 1936, and died in Florence July 23, 2013, in his sleep, of respiratory failure.
Gordon met the love of his life, Nancy, in high school. They married in 1954 and had three children: Gary, Susan and Glen. They lived in Pomona until 1973, when Buzz built a new family home with his own two hands and lots of hard work in Cedarpines Park, Calif.
He involved the whole family in building the house and taught the kids to work with their hands.
Buzz believed in hard work and lots of fun.
At the age of 12, he started his first job on a paper route and worked restaurant jobs throughout high school.
Upon graduation, he and Nancy married and Buzz began his career within the aerospace industry working as a printer and photo lithographer at General Dynamics.
Buzz and Nancy relocated to Florence upon retirement as it had been a lifelong dream to live on the Oregon coast.
To know Buzz was to know hard work, fun, great food, laughs and a “you betch’a” good time.
Buzz enjoyed cooking and baking and loved to feed his family and friends. In earlier years, he always found time to take his family camping, fishing, boating, and to teach them how to be a great citizen.
His kids have fond memories of great family times, including camping at Honeyman State Park, fishing at Lake Havasu, and boating and water skiing all over the West Coast.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife.
Gordon is survived by his children; his sister, Peggy; grandchildren Krysta, Kevin, Jimmy, Chris and Jena; and great-grandchildren Randy and Ailey.
