Oregon State Police (OSP) is investigating an early Friday morning single-vehicle crash on Upper North Fork Road. A pickup truck and its passengers left the road north of Florence and landed in a creek.
Ronald M. Catalfamo Jr., 23, of Florence, the driver of the truck, was killed. Nichole K. Wells, 21, also of Florence, a passenger, sustained minor injuries.
According to OSP Sgt. Alan Gilbert, on July 26, at approximately 3 a.m., state police and local emergency responders were notified of a single-vehicle traffic crash along the Upper North Fork near milepost 3.
The 1997 Toyota Tacoma pickup was southbound. For unknown reasons, the driver lost control and traveled over a 40-foot embankment.
Wells was able to get out of the pickup and make her way up an embankment. She walked along the road until she flagged down a passing motorist.
When emergency responders arrived, they confirmed Catalfamo was inside the pickup that was lying on its side in the creek. Catalfamo was pronounced deceased at the scene. For the complete article see the 07-27-2013 issue.
