HOLDER—Shirley Amis Holder, 78, went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday after battling Alzheimer’s for many years. Even through the confusion, her love for her husband was evident and she continued to share with those she met about her Savior.
She died at home surrounded by her husband, daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends.
Shirley was born to Arthur and Gracie Amis the youngest of three children. Her mother started a grocery store in their living room to support the family after Shirley’s father left them. She loved the adventure and fondly told her grandchildren stories of her early life.
Her mother took the family to California, where Shirley met Ben Holder at church. The two fell in love and later married. They were married for 59 years and raised five children in the Santa Clarita, Calif., area.
They led a very active social life with many friends and their church family. Shirley was the life of the party with her vivacious personality and charming smile. She loved the Lord with all her heart, mind and soul, and next best was her love of being a wife and mother.
She served people, even those difficult to love in countless ways while bringing a smile to the faces of many as she rushed about preparing for weddings, showers, funerals and get togethers.
She cooked and baked more rolls, pies and meals for people than we can count, and her daughters, daughter-in-law and granddaughters are carrying on her love for people and recipes and blessing others with them.
Ben and Shirley loved going through life together and had many adventures in everyday life and as they traveled the world.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bobbie, her nephew Dan Craig, daughter-in-law Tammy Holder, granddaughter Stephanie and great-grand daughter Zoe.
She is survived by her husband, Ben Holder; sister Wanda Marks; daughters Kimbra Wood (husband Steve) and Kelly Smith (husband Marc); sons Kevin, Keith, Kirby (wife Lisa); grandchildren: Micah (wife Dania) Wood (and their children Micah and Fiona), Brian (wife McKenzie) Wood, Christopher Holder, Alexa Holder, Ridge Thomas (Holder), Amber, David (wife Keslie and their children Emma, Molly and Owen), Heather, Taylor, Gracie, Sarah, Benjamin and Lydia Smith, Cameron, Pierce and Preston Holder.
That makes 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren with another on the way.
The funeral will be held at the Lacomb Bible Church, in Lebanon, Ore., today at 1 p.m.
Burial will immediately follow.
