Hundreds visit Old Town to sample chowder

Posted: Tuesday, Oct 15th, 2013

Visitors flocked to Old Town this weekend for the Columbus Day Chowder Voyage, at which people could wander through establishments that offered chowder samples that were later voted on. Queen Isabella and Christopher Columbus, above right, visited many shops in Old Town, too. Marcia Baumbaugh, second from left, won the largest prize from the day’s drawings. (courtesy photo)

Old Town was brimming with hundreds of visitors Sunday, Oct. 13, as shop owners celebrated the third annual Columbus Day Chowder Voyage. Christopher Columbus and Queen Isabella (Erick and Robyn Smith in the roles) could be seen sauntering around Bay Street greeting visitors, passing out commemorative tokens and pausing for photo ops with visitors.

More than 200 adventurers participated in the voyage, sampling chowder, Italian or Spanish finger foods and even wine from the 23 participating Florence Area Chamber of Commerce members.
