Mapleton School District participated in the Great Oregon Shake Out, a statewide earthquake drill, Thursday morning. Students and staff practiced the “Drop, Cover and Hold On” approach as a way to protect themselves during an earthquake. Following the drill, they evacuated the buildings. Above, students in Charnae Decker’s sixth-grade class find safety underneath their desks during the drill. The Great Oregon Shake Out is part of a nationwide effort to raise awareness about earthquake emergencies. More than 270,000 Oregonians participated in this year’s program.
