Work could begin on billions of dollars of backlog of maintenance and dredging projects in the nation’s ports with Wednesday’s passage of the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WRRDA).
The bill boosts funding for harbor maintenance and provides critical resources to small Oregon ports such as the Port of Siuslaw.
The WRRDA gradually increases the amount of Harbor Maintenance Tax (HMT) dedicated to dredging and jetty maintenance from its current level of about 50 percent to 80 percent by 2020. For the complete article see the 10-26-2013 issue.
