McCORMICK—Dr. Mack H. McCormick, 92, was laid to rest at Bella Vista Cemetery in El Dorado, Kan., on Nov. 20, 2013.
He was born Jan. 1, 1921.
Dr. McCormick was an El Dorado native son who fought in World War II as a U.S. Marine, seeing action in the South Pacific campaigns.
Upon re-turning from war, Dr. McCormick attended Kansas University and the University of Illinos, where he received his doctorate in bio-chemistry.
Dr. McCormick joined Eli Lilly in Indianapolis, Ind., in 1950. Dr. McCormick is crdited with the discovery and development of the antibiotic Vancomycin, which is still in use today.
He is survived by two sons: Mack Jr. and Charles; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He will be missed.
