Jean Chapman, museum patron, dies Thanksgiving Day

Posted: Tuesday, Dec 17th, 2013

Siuslaw Pioneer Museum Board President Del Phelps announced Monday that on Thanksgiving Day Jean Chapman passed away.

“Florence has lost another icon who was dedicated to this community’s volunteer work,” Phelps said.

From the time Jean Chapman and her husband Earl moved to Florence in the early 1970s, Jean involved herself in the community by volunteering for many organizations and committees. She was very active in the Ladies of the Elks and loved to make beautiful decorations for the many Elks social occasions. In 1973, Eileen Huntington recruited Jean to volunteer at the Siuslaw Pioneer Museum.
