Field trip with Santa

Posted: Tuesday, Dec 17th, 2013

Santa, Mrs. Claus and a group of young elves were seen riding the school bus from Siuslaw Elementary School to the Siuslaw Pioneer Museum in Old Town Florence Friday, Dec. 13. Mrs. Greene’s and Mrs. Ramsey’s classes took a field trip to the museum where they learned about the history of Florence and visited with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The students took a step back in time as they entered what was once one of the first schools in Florence. Thanks to Bill Tizzard, the museum docents and the Heritage Players, the students learned about historical shipwrecks, a mammoth tooth found on the beach and what Florence was like a century ago. Historian Fred Jensen also spoke with the students about the museum displays. Mrs. Rankin’s and Mrs. Devries’ classes will take their trip to the museum this Friday, Dec. 20. Third-grade students will enjoy a portion of their last day of school at the museum before the date signals the beginning of the Siuslaw School District’s winter break. (courtesy photos)
