ERSKINE—Carolynda Erskine, 82, of Florence, passed away Dec. 17, 2013.
Carolynda was born Dec. 23, 1930, in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, to Lloyd and Catherine (McDonald) Young. Carolynda moved to Florence in 1955.
She was active in the community as the first female Florence city councilwoman, past president of the Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Soroptomist and volunteered for the Peace Harbor Hospital Auxiliary.
She was the owner CE’s Happenings clothing store.
Carolynda’s greatest joy was her involvement in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives.
She was actively involved in school activities and fundraising.
She is survived by her brother, Donald Young; her three children: Grant (Karen) Eckroth, Debra (Richard) Hoberg and Leslie Robinson; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Erskine, and grandson, Ryan Robinson.
A Mass will be said for Carolynda on Friday, Dec. 27, at 9 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
A celebration of life will be held at the Florence Elks Lodge on Sunday, Dec. 29, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Donations can be made in her name to the Ian Foster Memorial Fund, a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships to benefit participation in school sports for underprivileged families.
Scholarship and donations can be mailed to Siuslaw High School, 2975 Oak St., in Florence.
Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
