This New Year’s holiday is only the third since 1970 that Oregon law enforcement agencies reported no traffic fatalities in the state during the 30-hour reporting period, according to preliminary statistics released Thursday.
Oregon Department of Transportation’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System has kept a record of traffic fatalities since 1970 and shows that there were none reported in 2003 (30-hour period) and 2010 (78-hour period).
This year’s reporting period took place between 6 p.m., Dec. 31, 2013, and 11:59 p.m., Jan. 1, 2014, with no traffic-related deaths recorded.
Reporting periods may be different lengths depending on the day of the week the holiday falls on, said Oregon State Police. For the complete article see the 01-04-2014 issue.
