School district, child care center: no final decisions

Posted: Friday, Jan 10th, 2014

During this week’s Siuslaw school board meeting, Superintendent Shawn Wiencek recommended the board table until April any decision on a contract with the Boys and Girls Club of Western Lane County in reference to the Quality Child Care of Florence learning and child care center.

Jonathan Hicks, the club’s executive director, suggested at the beginning of the meeting that the board table a decision until its February meeting, to give both sides more time to study the issue and come to a mutually beneficial agreement.

Wiencek’s April suggestion is significant because the current contract between QCCF and the school district, signed in 2009, expires at the end of March.

“I recommend that we come back and revisit that (the contract) April 1, when the contract has concluded and, hopefully, we should have something put together,” Wiencek said.
