Sailors cage Cougars

Posted: Friday, Jan 24th, 2014

Mapleton junior Tucker Ford scored a game-high 27 points in the Sailors’ win over Crow on Wednesday. Mapleton starters Jake Dearman, Hunter Simington and Chris Free re-enter the court following a timeout with the game tied at 27-27 late in the fourth quarter.

Following their loss to Triangle Lake earlier in the week, the Sailors were back on familiar hardwood Wednesday, hosting fifth-place Crow for a much-needed upset win over the Cougars.

Solid defense and missed shots from the field by both teams kept scoring low throughout the game, with the Cougars holding a slim 25-20 lead entering the second half. After a nearly two-minute scoring stalemate, Mapleton junior Tucker Ford brought the ball down on a steal, scoring on a fake to put the Sailors within three. A free throw by senior Justin Schaaf made it a one-basket game, on which Ford quickly capitalized with another steal and fastbreak lay-up to tie the game at 25.
