Former Lane County Commissioner Jerry Rust displays some of the tools he will employ during Chinese Corner, introductory Chinese language classes, the first in a series to be held tonight at 5 p.m. in the Bromley Room of Siuslaw Public Library. Anyone interested in learning Chinese is welcome to attend.
Enthralled with Chinaís culture and language since 1964 when he visited Asia as a college student, Jerry Rust hopes to inspire others tonight at 5 p.m., when he holds the first in a series of introductory conversational Chinese classes he calls Chinese Corner. Open to students of all ages, Rust led the free classes last year, and said prior students and first-timers are welcome to attend.

ďIím trying to show there is an easy, fun way to learn some Chinese. Maybe itís your cup of tea and maybe itís not, but it wonít hurt to try,Ē Rust said.

The hour-long classes are in the Siuslaw Public Libraryís Bromley Room. Students will help decide dates for future classes. Rust plans 10 to 12 sessions this year.
