DUNES CITY — Over the past several weeks, Dunes City Hall has received several phone calls reporting both cougar and bear sightings. Some have been traumatic: two pets from the Dunes City area, one dog and one cat, were reported taken by a cougar.

According to Dunes City Administrator Fred Hilden, there have been an unusually high number of bear sightings and several cougar encounters.

“Mostly in the southern area of Dunes City in the lower section of Clear Lake Road, between Highway 101 and Boy Scout Road,” he said. Additional sightings have been in the Hilltop and Westlake areas.
