City staff notable for ‘amazing’ work

At Monday’s City Council meeting, Jacque Betz’s final such meeting in Florence, the former city manager presented awards of recognition to three outstanding employees. Hilary Thompson, assistant finance director, above left with Betz, has made “amazing” contributions to the Florence Finance Department, especially in the most recent budgeting process for the 2014-2015 fiscal year. Shawn Penrod, member of the Public Works Department, above center with Betz, was honored for his work on completing the Siuslaw River Bridge Interpretive Center. Florence Police Lt. John Pitcher was recognized for his work by Betz and Interim Chief Lynn Lamm. The award was accepted by his wife Diane Pitcher, right.
