One of the most photographed landmarks on the coast, Heceta Head Lighthouse and its supporters were recently recognized for their work in restoring the century-old beacon and contributing to the local visitor industry.

Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic Viewpoint, about 12 miles north of Florence, received the 2014 Eugene, Cascades and Coast Destination Award by Travel Lane County at its annual celebration June 19 honoring regional tourism achievements.

“It’s very gratifying to have Heceta Head recognized with the tourism Destination Award,” said Oregon State Parks spokesman Chris Havel. “Even though it’s close to home for many people, traveling to special places still has the power to open our eyes and enrich our lives. That’s what state parks are for, and why we spend so much time and energy managing and protecting them.”
