At approximately 5 a.m. on Monday, June 30, David Huntington received a call from U.S. Coast Guard Station Siuslaw River saying that an Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) tracking transmitter had been activated, indicating his vessel had sunk. His boat, Tie One On, a 26-foot, 2008 Weldcraft, was tied up along C-dock at the Port of Siuslaw.

Huntington, a local fishing guide, had recently purchased the boat and outfitted it as a charter/commercial fishing vessel.
