Wright descendant donates to military museum

Posted: Friday, Jul 25th, 2014

Wayne Sharpe, vice president of the Oregon Coast Military Museum board, accepts the commemorative envelope celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Wright brothers’ flight from descendant Cynthia Edwards.
A descendant of the famous Wright brothers donated one of the official commemorative envelopes celebrating the 100th anniversary of their historic flight on Dec. 17, 1903, to the Oregon Coast Military Museum in Florence this week.

Cynthia Edwards, the great-grandniece of Wilbur and Orville Wright, presented the framed item Tuesday morning, July 22, during a brief visit to the area. A limited number of the envelopes were made and stamped by the U.S. Postal Service in Kill Devil Hills, N.C., on Dec. 17, 2003, exactly a century after the brothers’ first flight.
