Florence kids go ‘adventuring’
Siuslaw School District hosts second annual Adventure Camp
June 29, 2022 — For the second straight year, Siuslaw School District hosted its Siuslaw Adventure Camp.
The camp was held the week after school got out and lasted five days. Approximately 30 kids got a chance to explore Oregon, stay active and build camaraderie all at the same time.
“We are very fortunate to have administration like [Siuslaw Middle School Principal] Andy Marohl and [Siuslaw School District Superintendent] Andy Grzeskowiak, who find funding and opportunities for kids to have these positive experiences especially after two long COVID years,” said Jeremy Graybill, Siuslaw Middle School Athletic Director and coordinator of the event.
In Florence, kids rode dune buggies and played mini golf at Sandland Adventures and toured U.S. Coast Guard Station Siuslaw River. They kayaked the Siltcoos Outlet in Westlake. The adventurers headed to the valley to jump on the trampolines at Defy in Eugene and get wet at Splash! in Springfield. Finally, they learned about local marine life at the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport.
“We are hoping funds will be available again for another adventure in 2023,” said Graybill.
