Florence police arrest Florida man Dec. 3

Dec. 6, 2021 — The Florence Police Department has arrested Avery McMullen, a man living in Florence, after a traffic stop revealed several warrants out for his arrest.

On Friday, Dec. 3, at approximately 7:23 p.m., a Florence Police Officer stopped a vehicle in the 200 block of Nopal Street for a routine traffic stop. The driver stated he did not have any ID on his person and identified himself as Avery McMullen.

The officer checked McMullen for warrants and driver’s license status and discovered that there were several warrants issued for an Avery McMullen out of Florida, with one of the warrants being for two counts of attempted first degree murder.

Officers were able to safely detain McMullen and confirm that he was the suspect wanted out of Florida. The warrants for McMullen were issued in January 2021 and McMullen had been living in Florence for the past several months.

McMullen, born April 8, 2000, was arrested and charged with fugitive from justice based on warrants out of Florida for two counts of attempted first degree murder, shooting into an unoccupied building, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and simple battery domestic.

He was lodged in the Florence City Jail and later transported to the Lane County Jail. The Lane County District Attorney’s office will work with Florida for possible extradition.
