Kennedy snaps Siuslaw streak

Trojans hand Viks first loss in 14 games
Sept. 13, 2022 — The Siuslaw Vikings brought a 14-game win streak into their game against John F. Kennedy High of Mt. Angel on Sept. 9. The Trojans beat the Viks 24-0, giving Siuslaw their first loss since the second to last game of the 2020 season.
This is the first time Siuslaw has been shut out since a 49-0 loss to Newport during the dismal 2017 season.
Most of the highlights for the Vikings were on the defensive side of the ball, led by senior Ian Sissel who had an interception and fumble recovery.
The offensive numbers all belong to the visiting Trojans, who outgained SHS 277-97.
Freshman quarterback Micah Blankenship continued his work in uncharted territory.
Siuslaw football historian Don Hunt confirmed that Blankenship is the only known freshman starting quarterback in the program’s long history. He is also the first left-handed quarterback to take a snap since Clint McClellan in 1983.
Next up for Siuslaw is their Mountain Valley League opener, a tough road match-up versus La Pine. Like the Vikings, the Hawks have had a bit of a “Jekyll and Hyde” start to their season. They shut-out Corbett on the road to open the season 56-0 then almost got shut out themselves with a 40-6 loss to Dayton.
In other matchups of interest, Waldport beat Reedsport 24-8. 3A #1 Banks beat Tillamook 20-12. Siuslaw’s week 4 opponent Harrisburg crushed Corbett 47-0.
Siuslaw travels to La Pine on Friday for their first road game of the season. Kick-off is 7 p.m. Catch all the action live on KCST 106.9 FM. Pregame starts at 6:45 p.m.
