Off to the races
Florence Rotarians are “off to the races” in celebration of this year’s Kentucky Derby theme for the annual Rotary Auction, coming this June to the Florence Events Center.
Club announces return of Rotary Auction
April 16, 2022 — This week, the Rotary Club of Florence announced that its auction will return on Saturday, June 4, at the Florence Events Center. This year’s theme is “Derby Dollars for Rotary Scholars” — a big idea to reflect the goal of the event: raising thousands for Rotary’s many scholarships for area students.
This is the first year back for the auction after a multi-year hiatus due to COVID-19.
At the April 12 Rotary meeting, held in person at the FEC, Rotarians dressed up for a skit to show how they will “send kids off to the races” for the event.
The Rotary Auction Committee includes longtime chairs Kevin McMullen and Kim Erickson and more than a dozen Rotarians.
What started out decades ago as a small event raising a couple thousand dollars to a gala which raised more than $109,000 in 2017, the Rotary Auction serves as a fun way for Rotarians and community members alike to enjoy a catered dinner while raising money for scholarships for students in the Siuslaw and Mapleton school districts. The auction in Florence netted
$1,560,785.23 from 1960 to 2019. People can purchase individual tickets or reserve half or full tables by contacting McMullen at 541991-7048 or Erickson at 541-991-2070.
