Polk County missing man’s vehicle found near dunes

Guy Vernon Knight’s Jeep was found near the South Jetty staging area on Oct. 18. Knight has not been found.

Oct. 26, 2021 — Lane County Sheriff’s Office and other authorities are requesting the public's assistance in a missing person investigation.

Guy Vernon Knight, of Polk County, was last seen outside of Dallas, Ore., on the morning of Oct. 15 driving his Jeep Wrangler.

On Oct. 18, Knight’s Jeep was located unoccupied in the parking lot of the South Jetty staging area south of Florence, within the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area.

Lane County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue teams searched the area but Knight was not located.

Knight is diabetic and has some underlying heart conditions which require medications. If he is found, he may be in medical need.

Knight’s vehicle is a two-door yellow Jeep Wrangler. It is lifted with oversized tires, a soft top and a portion of the hood is black.

Investigators are looking for any information leading to Mr. Knight’s whereabouts. Anyone that saw him or his vehicle on or between Oct. 15 to 18 are asked to contact the Polk County Sheriff’s Office at 503-623-9251 and ask for Deputy Knudson or contact the Lane County Sheriff’s Office at 541-682-4150 opt. 1.

Knight's Jeep has been returned to his family. Any sightings of his vehicle after Oct. 24 are not necessary to report.
