Siuslaw Watershed seeks volunteers for Native Plant Distribution

Nov. 30, 2022 — The Siuslaw Watershed Council’s (SWC) 24th Native Plant Distribution is just around the corner. Ordering will open later this month, but SWC is looking ahead to their volunteer needs for distribution day on Feb. 4, 2023.
“This event couldn't succeed without our wonderful volunteers,” SWC posted on its Facebook page.
The following are the tasks volunteers are needed for:
Feb. 3 — Orders will be assembled at the SWC office in Mapleton. This is the most time-demanding activity and typically requires at least a dozen volunteers to complete. Of course, more hands mean shorter hours and easier work. A tasty lunch is provided.
Feb. 4 — SWC needs drivers to deliver orders to distribution sites in Blachly, Deadwood and Lorane. This is most-easily done with a pickup or small trailer. The volunteers would distribute orders for approximately two hours and then return any unclaimed plants to the SWC office in Mapleton within the next couple days.
Also, a couple volunteers will be needed to process order claims at the SWC office in Mapleton on Feb. 4. Recipients will arrive between 10 a.m. and noon to claim their orders.
The SWC’s Native Plant Distribution is one of their most successful programs. It provides free native plants to landowners with property in riparian areas along local waterways.
Those who are interested in volunteering should mark those dates on their calendars and contact Britnee Church at [email protected] or 541-268-3044.
