Spruce Point takes precautions after COVID-19 detected in staff, residents

July 19, 2021 — Spruce Point Assisted Living and Memory Care, a premiere assisted living community situated within the town of Florence, Oregon, experienced positive COVID-19 cases on July 15, 2021, within its Memory Care community. In a response to the reported outbreak, Spruce Point provided the following news release.

Spruce Point administrators are working collaboratively with Lane County Public Health during this time to ensure all public health safety measures are being met.

“Our team is providing excellent care to all of our residents,” stated Billie Wingfield, Senior Executive Director at Spruce Point. “We are working in close collaboration with Lane County Public Health and following all state and county guidelines for protocols, procedures, and counter-measures.”

Precautions being taken to protect residents and staff include:

  • Team members are furnished with personal protective equipment (PPE) to be worn at all times.
  • All residents are currently asked to stay inside their apartments for the time being.
  • All residents are being served meals in their apartments and with disposable dishes and cutlery.
  • All residents are being monitored each shift for possible symptoms of illness.
  • Increased disinfection and infection control measures are in place as well as social/physical distancing measures.
  • All team members are participating in ongoing infection control procedures training.
  • A vaccination clinic is being scheduled to continue to make vaccines available to any yet unvaccinated community members.

Spruce Point has been encouraging all staff and residents to get vaccinated and offering the vaccine to anyone willing since January of this year. So far, 36% of staff and 87% of residents have been fully vaccinated.

Lane County Public Health has not verified those statistics as of press time Tuesday.

“We truly appreciate all of the support and encouragement from our local community.  The tremendous spirit exhibited by our residents, team members and our families, as we’ve all responded to this unprecedented situation, is nothing less than inspirational.  We have been and will remain in close contact with our residents and families to keep them informed and updated as this situation unfolds,” added Wingfield.
