Thompson having successful season with Sea Dogs

Former Viking in his fifth year of pro ball
June 3, 2022 — On May 29, the Portland Sea Dogs, Boston Red Sox’s AA farm team, lost to the Somerset Patriots 12-4. Even in the loss, there was good news for a name familiar to baseball fans in Florence.
Siuslaw High School alumni Jake Thompson pitched three scoreless innings, striking out five and only giving up two hits to earn the General Dynamics Bath Iron Works Player of the Game.
Though the season is still young, Thompson is putting together some impressive numbers thus far.
Through six games, Thompson has struck out 18 batters in just 11 1/3 innings. He’s given up just two earned runs thus far this year. Thompson has an impressive ERA (1.59) and WHIP (1.06) and is one of the top relief pitchers on the Sea Dog roster.
2022 is Thompson’s fifth season of professional baseball. His team, the Portland Sea Dogs, are 22-25 on the year and in fifth place in the Eastern League’s Northeast Division.
The Red Sox farmhand is a 2013 graduate of Siuslaw High. He went on to pitch for the Oregon State Beavers, where he earned All-American honors. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft.
