Upriver community gets together for Family Fun

Mapleton School District hosts community party

Jan. 25, 2023 (Mapleton) - The upriver community gathered at Mapleton High School on Jan. 18 for a Family Fun Night hosted by Mapleton School District.

After dealing with water issues for the last month, the district said it felt the community could use a chance to gather together for some fun and fellowship.

Superintendent Sue Wilson started the event by expressing gratitude to those who have led the fight to restore water to Mapleton residents, thanking many by name.

Community organizations like Boys & Girls Club of Western Lane County, Siuslaw Vision, S.O.S. and Mapleton Food Share set up tables with information about the resources and services they provide. There was a 50/50 raffle to benefit the senior class. Burgers were barbecued and served free of charge along with other tasty food and drinks. Activities from board games to badminton were enjoyed by community members.

The district also asked for the community’s input on what they believe is the “Portrait of a Mapleton Graduate” and also asked what a community school like Mapleton should provide to the people of Mapleton and the entire upriver area.

The Mapleton School District Board of Directors met following the gathering.
